Always open new windows with full features
I get annoyed whenever a web link open a new window with stripped down features (hidden location bar, status bar, or scroll bar). MozillaZine has a great little tip how to prevent this from happening.
IE Tabs
IE Tabs is a Firefox add-on that eliminates the need to launch IE browser for some websites.
Office 2007
Microsoft Office 2007 is a pain to use. You have to convert document into 2007 format to be able to do simple things such as inserting equations. Of course, once it is in 2007 format, old version (2003) cannot open the file.
Just use linux and Mac OS X when I can.
Time management
Right now work-wise, I’m taking on quite a diverse range of tasks. Running and analyzing fusion simulation, X-ray diffraction analysis, teaching (one short word which takes a lot of time), and trying to get the funding for the fusion collaboration. I have to split time between these tasks as best as I can.
It’s not easy trying to be well versed in many fields and at the same time be an expert in one.
Achievement
Sometimes you want to push your dream and make it a reality. Sometimes, it’s just too hard and too tiring. Must learn to pick your battle. Do your best and forget about it.
Maybe I should just accept what it is and relax. It’s not what one achieves in life that matter, it’s what one overcomes.
Life advices
Zenhabits.net has a good piece on 20 advices on life.
I also have my own: life is short, enjoy it while you can.
Compiz Fusion
Enjoying Compiz Fusion on Ubuntu 7.10.
How to be safe with data
I seem to always be testing new operating systems and that often involve re-installing everything and starting from scratch. How to keep things running smoothly with minimal downtime:
- be organized. keep important files in easy to find location
- backup file on usb drive, web
- be prepared to start fresh from a hard disk failure or clean install
EPL
It’s nice and relaxing to spend Sunday night watching sports on TV. English Premier League this season is a contest between three teams: Arsenal, Man Utd, and Chelsea. I’m not rooting for any team in particular. Man City is fun to watch though. An underdog team with some exciting players like Petrov and Richards. Tonight they beat Man Utd at Old Trafford for the 1st time in over 30 years.
Dealing
Work is getting busy these days. People keep throwing things my way. Things I want to do, I don’t get to do fully. Things I want to stay away, I have to waste incredibly so much time on.
Life is being far from ideal. Far from free.
But that’s the way it is. I have to deal with it. Do my best and forget about it. Life is too short to fight unwinnable wars.
