Korean dinner
I miss Korean food.
So tonight None and I went to have a nice dinner at Hanyang, a Korean restaurant in SBC Park mall, Bangkok. Had bulgogi (beef) and bibimbap, and kimchi of course. It was the first bibimbap I had in Thailand. It’s quite a nice place. Not too crowded or too expensive. Will go back.
Beer for health
Drink beer and wine for your health. Cheers!. Actually I have been drinking too little. Not many opportunities these days.
Spore
Will Wright introduces Spore in this TED talk (Mar 2007).
I’m looking forward to this game. Another great game from a very creative mind.
Trip
Trip to Siam Physics Congress in Khao Yai was a good one. Went with Nop, Su, Oh, Fhon, and Singto. We listened to research talks from around Thailand, presented posters, and played Texas Hold’em at night.
Can’t escape the heat though. It is too hot everywhere in Thailand. I wish I could move to a cooler place, like South Korea or Europe.
Obama on race
An amazing video showing why Barrack Obama is the man:
Khao Yai
On Thursday my research group will drive to Khao Yai, Nakorn Ratchasima to join the Siam Physics Congress conference. I look forward to listening to good talks on various physics fields. I’ll have to miss my classes so that is unfortunate. But that’s a typical life of a researcher I guess.
Dinosaurs
Censoring information is a sign of a backward society. Chinese government is showing the world how to be a dinosaur, by blocking Youtube, among other things..
Bad PowerPoint
Some people seem to think that giving a lecture or presentation means reading through a prepared Powerpoint file. This blog post at Presentation Zen shows you, with a comedic touch, how poorly done slides can diminish the power of words. Slides should only be used as a guide and an aide, and nothing more. They should not direct the presentation.
Firefox 3
Memory usage of Firefox 3 (beta 4) is found to be lower than FF2 and much lower than IE7, this study at Pavlov.net shows. I don’t know why anyone is still using IE.
Saturday night
Nice to take time out and relax. Recovered almost fully from the cold. Probably watching EPL tonight and doing some work. Teaching any class for the first time is always challenging, so I have to keep working on my notes. Actually, doing anything for the first time is challenging. … But I love challenges.
I recently lose my notebook (an actual paper notebook, not a computer). I have basically been writing all my things to-do and appointments in that book. So I’m bummed that I lost it. It had calendar with space to write things in, and the size was small enough to fit in my pocket. Now I have to find something else to replace it.
