What a pain
So how am i doing today? Not so good. I wanted to run today. I went out, changed clothes, put on knee supports, then i started running. The sharp pain flared up in my left knee again.
So I stopped. not even made it to one mile today. So frustrated. The pain keeps coming back and prevents me from accomplishing what I want to do. Oh well. Have to rest up and be patient. That’s what I can do right now.

Tuesday update
Not a good start to the week. Yesterday my car window got smashed so had some trouble with the commute. Didn’t get to run. There are worse things in life. Still, I felt annoyed.
Today I got back on schedule with an evening run. Felt good to be moving. People are meant to be in motion, not sitting in front of computers or televisions.
However, after about half an hour in, my left knee started hurting again so I stopped. Didn’t want it to get worse. Pain is good. It makes you stronger. But it’s not worth pushing if it could lead to long-term injuries. Gotta stay healthy.
Gonna close this post with a picture of the office cat sleeping on a chair. Life is so comfy for her.
One fine day
Finished grading the quiz this morning. Wanted to get this done early. Overall the students improved from the first quiz. So that’s a good thing. There are a few very good students and some okay students who are trying hard. Not everyone is giving their best though. But i can’t expect such perfection. If they aren’t willing to help themselves by studying, I can’t do anything to help them.
Went out for a run in a park. Though I woke up early, i didn’t get to the park till 9:30am. By then it was already quite hot. Unsurprisingly, not many people were out running, but quite a few were sitting under trees relaxing. It was a pleasant day out there if you can avoid the sun.
Came to None’s place afterward, and took a shower. To replenish the sweat, she made a sugared, salted drink for me. We found that it tasted quite blah. Maybe next time we added some lemon juice.
Went to The Mall and had lunch there in the Food Court. Browsed some running apparel. Too few choices there so all we did was looking. Had coffee at Starbucks before going home.
So a nice simple Sunday. Got a bit of work done. Relaxed a little. Ran a little. No stress. No illness. No injuries. It’s a good day.
It’s hot around here
It’s Friday. I love Fridays.
Went to a meeting today in Thammasat university in Pathum Thani. Professor Fukuyama from Japan gave a talk on nuclear fusion research. A real nice guy. Hopefully there can be collaboration between his group and our group in the future.
The air conditioner is broken in my car. What a bad time. It’s ultra hot in Bangkok these days. The Mazda center said it will cost 20,000-something Baht (~600 USD) to fix it. Oh well.
Knee pain
Wanted to do a short and fast one today. So went out and ran a mile around a 400m track before lunch today. Sweated so much while eating lunch.
Ran a couple more miles in the evening. Didn’t go well at all. Hurt my left knee. I didn’t even go that fast. Argh. Many it was from the midday run. Went too hard too fast. Should have taken it slow and warmed up more. Maybe it’s the shoes that don’t seem to fit well anymore. My feet move around in them too much. I don’t know.
Hopefully it is not too serious and I can recover soon.
Midweek run
Don Bosco 10K
Did a 10K race today. 7th annual Don Bosco mini marathon at Rama IX Park. Starting time 6 am. There was a bit of a delay but things proceeded smoothly afterwards. Went there with None. We had to wake up super early to go register and get ready. It’s nice to have her with me.
It was a nice little race. I accomplished my time goal (finishing under 1 hour). Legs didn’t hurt . Had enough energy to speed to the line. The training has paid off. It’s all good.

Back on the pavement
Lance Armstrong: “Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever.”
Good training yesterday. Still sniffling a bit. I guess I’m not completely recovered yet. But the ill effects didn’t bother me too much while running. I did a one mile warmup then went for 5 more at a slightly faster pace. I went a bit slower than my goal pace. But considering I just had a sick week, I did okay today. I did run the whole way so that was good too.
Push your own limits. Focus on yourself. Don’t think too much about how others do. Otherwise you would get yourself injured.
Good rest
Just had dinner at Pueng Chom restaurant in Soi Ari again. The traffic was great this evening. Probably because lots of people are still on vacation. My second time at the place. Nice food as usual. Steamed beef (เนื้อนึ่งแจ่วแมงดา), fried chicken wings, and hot pork curry (ต้มแซ่บกระดูกหมู).
The 3-day rest has been great. I needed it badly. The illness seems to be mostly gone. Tomorrow I’ll be back on schedule, pushing hard.
