Phoneless
Today I rest. The left IT band hurts pretty bad from yesterday’s run.
Went to the mall. Brought my phone to a Nokia Care center. It was having multiple problems in the recent days: battery draining fast, blurry camera, and static noise during calls. It was bugging me so I want to get it sorted out immediately.
I’ve been pretty dependent on the phone. Mostly I used it for jotting down a list of to-do’s. I’m gonna lose the data on the phone when they reformat it. Most important stuff are the to-do list, photos, notes, bookmarks. I guess I should do more stuff online so I will not have to worry about these types of problem. Google Calendar and Remember the Milk seem to be good alternatives. Of course, being online is not always possible, so I’m thinking of using pen&paper to jot down things and then transfer the contents to the computer.
Like to keep life simple and not rely too much on gadgets.
PDF on Windows
PDF viewer is one of the most necessary piece of software for people spending time online. On my Mac I love Skim. But on Windows, it seems to me that a perfect software to view PDF files is still missing.
First of all, the official app Adobe Reader is bloated. What’s with the Content Preparation annoyance. And why is it so damn big?
Sumatra is a nice tiny reader but doesn’t progressively load the content. It also doesn’t remember View options.
Foxit Reader is also fast but it has that annoying messed-up Toolbars bug when the window is minimized. How come they haven’t fixed it?
Lastly, PDF XChange doesn’t scroll with spacebar. What an oversight.
Is there no good PDF viewer on Windows?
Syncing phone calendar
I’ve been looking for a way to sync calendar on the phone with that on Google. CalsyncS60 (link) didn’t work well for me.
Just found a rocking way to do so. Use scheduleworld and the Nokia’s Sync application on the phone. It takes a bit of time to set up scheduleworld (the Preference page is really clunky) but it’s worth the effort.
To have SW sync with GCal, set up according to this guide. Then set up the Sync app following this guide. Finally, have the Sync app synchronize with SW. Voila, you have GCal calendar on your phone.
Nokia’s Ovi is nice as well. I love Ovi’s interface. So clean.
Android
First Google Android phone will be launched today. Looking forward to read about it.
Chrome + Privoxy = no ads
Google Chrome is lean and fast, but at this stage it lacks add-ons that Firefox has. One of my favorite add-on is Ad-blocking feature. Here is how we can use Privoxy to block ads.

Ubiquity
Check out this new invention from Mozilla Labs. It’s called Ubiquity. It lets you do things such as email, translate, check out weather, via command line. Once mastered, it will help reduce amount of time spent in going to various websites to find information/do things you want.
You need Firefox to play with this gem. It’s awesome.
