I seem to always be testing new operating systems and that often involve re-installing everything and starting from scratch. How to keep things running smoothly with minimal downtime:

  1. be organized. keep important files in easy to find location
  2. backup file on usb drive, web
  3. be prepared to start fresh from a hard disk failure or clean install
