Morning laps

So things are going well. Training consistently. Last week I spent a few days at a conference in Kanchanaburi so I didn’t do much running. Ate a lot and didn’t feel too well. This week, I am back doing my rounds. The usual time and place. Mornings mostly. Concrete and gravel track on weekdays. Asphalt on weekends.

Heat is making it hard. Pace is kept slow. Still, time spent out there is the best time of the day. Makes the rest of the day more pleasant. More energy at work. Better appetite at lunch time.

Looking to run a half in June. Will start training for it very soon. Can’t do well without training.

In heat

Quick update. I ran this last week as I ran the week before. Consistent mileage, with one really easy day per week. The weekly mileage is about the same the past three weeks. The stomach ache last about 5 days. Really glad it’s gone. Energy is back.

Not loving the weather though. It’s getting hotter and hotter. Temperature reaching 30C by 8am is just cruel. I really struggled this morning, as I have the past several days. Have to be conservative and hydrate well.

Weekend recovery

Saturday was an easy day, thankfully. I still was not fully recovered from the sickness I encountered mid-week. Went out to the park and ran a quick one. Since the distance was short I decided to push hard toward the end. Felt good to go fast once in a while.

Post-run fuel included carrot-sesame soup and toast. Healthy and they went down easily. Normal meals (rice dishes) are giving me a bit of trouble recently. The appetite is not back to normal yet.

Today I went out to KU campus. Had some stuff to do (feeding Pepe) beforehand, so I got there a bit late. As a result the weather was already sunny and warm.

The big breakfast made me feel sluggish and unwell in general. The strong sun didn’t help. Had to take a walk+water break midway, before struggling to finish my workout.

Took a rest during the day then went out and did another easy jog in the evening. Just about 1 mile of walk/run with Nan. We had a very nice time.

Stomach problem

Stomach has been a big problem these past couple days. For a long time, things had been going smoothly. Suddenly I woke up yesterday and felt nauseated. Went out to run yesterday with low energy. This morning I felt better but still wanted to throw up as I ran. Cut the run short. Heart was in it but body wanted to rest.

Such is life. Good thing I’m not running a race this weekend. A long, hard training can be undone by an unforeseen illness just like this.

Hopefully I’ll recover soon. Tough days like these remind me to appreciate those days when things go well.

On a somewhat related note, it is now extremely hot in Thailand. It gets near 30C at 6-7am and 35C at midday. Needless to say, it is a struggle getting out there to do anything.

Feb recap

Running numbers this past February: 3 days off, 0 sick day. 166 miles. Highlight: 10K PB on Valentine’s day.

I have lowered the mileage a bit the second half of the month. Gained weight about 1 kg.
