Surreal day

with 4 comments

Got married on Saturday. Felt so good to see familiar, and not so familiar, faces. Knowing that they care enough about us to show up and share the special day with us means a lot. The entire day was like a dream.

Lost my uncle on the wedding day. Life can end so suddenly. Nobody could see this coming. He was a military man and a runner, who was healthy and always in good mood. We will all miss him.

Worn

Watching the elite marathoners ran the Boston Marathon gives me a source of inspiration. How is it possible to run that fast for that long? How can one cover 26.2 miles in 2 hours and 5 minutes? Nobody is born to do that. You got to train damn hard to be able to accomplish such feat. There’s nothing more to it. That, to me, is incredibly inspiring.

This morning I could only manage about half of my goal distance. Pace was good though. Fastest run I did in a while. Had trouble breathing and keeping the body temperature down. Chest was stuffy. The illness is making it tough to run. Feeling worn down. Mind is motivated but body is not there.

Down but not out.

Ash trouble

with 2 comments

Long Songkran weekend was over. Spent it in Bangkok. Stuff to do. Back to work today. Vacation will come soon.

Woke up with a sore throat on Saturday. It was raining in the morning also, first in a long while. So I took the first day off in April. Did short runs on Sunday and Monday. Still not feeling so good. Coming down with a cold.

I last had a cold in November. Hopefully this one won’t be too bad. Drinking lots of water and taking some Fah talai jone capsules.

Boston Marathon is today of course. The world’s oldest annual marathon. Can’t get more classic than that. Quite interested in that. Though my mind is somewhere else these days…

The volcano in Iceland is causing quite a chaos in Europe. Planes cannot fly. People cannot travel. What a pain. Being stranded at an airport or in a foreign city is not a fun experience. Not sure if my sister can come to Bangkok in time for Saturday party.

Oh well, it is what it is. Sometimes there’s a problem but there’s nothing you can do. It’s life.

Super win in the Santiago Bernabéu. Xavi with two great assists. Barca is now 3 pts up, with 7 matches to go.

Bring on April

Thailand’s hottest month is here. So far I managed to get in nine runs in nine days. The runs are tough but that just means I have to be mentally stronger. Temperature is consistently 30C (86F) before 7am. Humidity is 70+%.

Challenges make life sweet. A sip of cold water after a hard run feels like heaven, and a shower becomes the best thing in the world.

There are plenty of people out there who run a lot more and train a lot harder than I do. I don’t think running once a day is a big deal. This is one of the few things in life I love to do. Plus, my body can take it. I rest 23 hours a day after all.

Today is Friday. Tuesday was a holiday. Any week with a day off is a good week. Looking forward to a good weekend.

March recap

with one comment

March mileage is 183. That’s about 6 miles per day. Longest run was 7.35 miles. That’s it. I took one day off. Was sick for about 5 days with stomach trouble. All in all, a pretty good month full of tough, sweaty runs under the sun.

march runs

I started April the same way I ended March. A morning run of about an hour and change. Run these days are gut-it-out runs. They are hot. Benefits of running such as clarity and peace of mind are often forgotten when you are fighting the heat.

One more thing. I’m having a stiff neck pain. Maybe a massage would help.
