My running routine has changed. Instead of doing a one-hour run each day, now i’m doing two 30-min runs, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Don’t know which routine is better. But this is what works for me now.
Mileage is consistent. Logged over 320 km both in April and May, which were two hottest months in Bangkok. The right achilles got hurt at the beginning of a morning run the other day. Probably that was due to starting out too fast with a drowsy body. Other than that, feeling good health-wise. The last time I got sick was back in January.
For my next race, I’m targeting a half marathon in late June.
Got a chance to go on a work trip to Singapore last week. I visited Nanyang Technological University. Very impressed with my first time in the country. It was refreshing to stay in a safe and clean environment. The food is a nice mixture of Asian cuisines. The price is reasonable. I also like their MRT system which spans extensively throughout the city, unlike Bangkok. You can pretty much go anywhere with it. I did not even mind walking 30 min from the train station to the campus at night, because of the lack of crime, street dogs, and pollution.
Regarding running, I got to run in a nearby track. Very nice sport facilities they have there. After about 3 weeks of running exclusively on a treadmill, it was fun to run outside again. Despite the rain and humid weather, I managed to do about one hour run each day.
April has been a good month and May has also been good so far. Ran everyday and averaged 50 mi/80 km per week. No long runs though; the fact which I’m not proud of.
Today was sunny and warm, but also with a bit of rain. I stayed in and did an interval run before breakfast. It was hard.
Spent the weekend relaxing at home. It’s fun to throw old stuff away and get rid of clutter.
Had a nice and simple Italian meal in the neighborhood last night with my wife.
Full of energy and ready for a new day.
This morning, I drove out to Suan Pruek park to watch an ultramarathon. The course was an 800-m loop. The runners were to run for 10 hours from 6am to 4pm. The light rain made the weather more bearable for the runners. I was there for an hour and took in the cheery atmosphere to begin my day.
So after spending some time with the treadmill, I find that it’s certainly not as fun as running outside. Though it’s a lot more convenient for me to get my runs in. It’s nice not having to do long commute before and after each run.
I have trouble keeping my outside pace on the belt. And despite the runs being shorter than my usual, I sweat more.
Though I do two-a-days more frequently, my weekly mileage stays about the same as before. It’s tough to stay on the mill for an hour. When I run outside, time seems to go by more quickly.
