Avocados. I like them. One of the few fatty, creamy, nutrient-packed, non-sweet fruits. Its mild flavor goes well with a lot of foods (salad, beef, eggs). There are many cultivars of avocado. It’s pretty expensive in Bangkok though, compared to other tropical fruits. At Villa Market, they sell imported avocados from Australia and New Zealand. Price varies between 59-79 Baht per fruit. There are cultivars which are grown in Thailand. But they either are hard to find or don’t taste so good.

We just got a couple which were grown in Pak Chong. Sold at 30 Baht/fruit. We aren’t sure what variety they are. First one, eaten with eggs, wasn’t too bad. But the second one, which was made into guacamole, was bitter, probably because it wasn’t ripe yet.
