Reflections on the Grind

thoughts on training and life of an introvert

Websites and TV programs are regularly blocked in Thailand. It’s one of the dark sides of Thailand. Free speech and access to information are basic human rights. We don’t have those here in this country. It seems that truth is considered an enemy of Thailand.

The problem is deeply rooted in Thai society. I believe that Thai schoolchildren are systematically brainwashed to become obedient slaves. They are constantly told to accept what adults tell them to believe, and not to think for themselves and be curious about anything.

Some people are content of being ignorant just so we can all be “in a harmonious society”. They shut down all discussions and opinions different from their own. They insult and threaten those who seek truths. They fear the lack of harmony, ignoring the fact that the “harmony” that they talk about is actually oppression.

[H]e, who will not reason, is a bigot; he, who cannot, is a fool; and he, who dares not, is a slave.

-Sir William Drummond of Logiealmond (1805)
