Went out Saturday to do a supposedly easy run in Prueksachart Park (สวนพฤกษ์ การเคหะ). Before the run, my left Achilles tendon hurt a bit but I didn’t think much of it. Ran for 4 km under warm late-morning sun. Then took a long walk home. It wasn’t smart. That evening I struggled to walk. Rested at home all day Sunday.
Not enough build-up before the 10 k:
The body probably was overworked since last week race. A classic case of ‘too much too fast’. After resting and applying some oil and cream, the tendon feels better today. Still limping, but able to drive to work. No big deal but a good lesson learnt.
10K Run For Children (วิ่งเพื่อน้อง ครั้งที่ 9)
Rama 9 Park (สวนหลวง ร. 9), Bangkok
First race in almost 14 months.
Met Marty at the start line. He ran a nice race.
First half 24:06, second half 25:19.
It was a very hard race for me. Just happy I could keep going at steady pace and finish. Legs felt fine but fitness was lacking. My longest run in the past year was 5.6 km yesterday. Wanted a negative split but failed. No biggie. It’s good to see where I am regarding endurance. Did manage to go under 50 min. I’m happy with that.
Well-organized event, even though I got an XL shirt (would be good as a pajamas) and a small urn instead of a medal.
Grateful that Nan got up early and left the house at 4 am with me to go to the race.
