Feeling better than yesterday. Lower fever. More energy. Feeling hungry to train. Hungry to get better.
Not a very good sleep last night (late night of family dinner) plus a stressful Monday results in low energy in the evening. Not an excuse. Just a fact.
One down. Four to go.
Went to the gym after fooling around on the web for a while. Need to reduce that timewaster.
Only two lifts today. Three work sets each. Ankles felt okay today. So I squatted after reverse grip bench press. Keeping the squat at only about 50% of max. Taking it easy and building the strength back up, one rep at a time.
When you can squat without pain, it feels so good.
Had a great dinner of salmon steak, rice, and green peas. Perfect.
Yesterday was bad. Today went okay. Tomorrow will be better.
Still not feeling well. A mild fever is sapping my energy. Taking it easy today to rest the aching body. Lifting weight is a catabolic activity (breaking down muscles), which probably not a good thing to do when the body is trying to recover. Taking multivitamin and napping to get ready for the upcoming work week. This week is going to be another busy one. Will take care it one day at a time. Hope I can feel well enough to be lifting soon.
When you are sick you can’t do much. Don’t feel defeated. Everyday is not going to be awesome. Progress is gradual. Persevere.
Saturdays are usually nice. Today is one of those days. Relaxing in the gym. Lift and rest. My left Achilles tendon hurts for the third straight day. IIt’s hard to walk around. Had to take a naproxen pill. So, no squatting. Today’s session included deadlift, barbell row, T-bar row, and pull ups. Just a little bit of each. Nothing too intense. Nan ran on the treadmill. Once my foot heals I’m gonna hop on that thing more regularly.
We went out in the evening. Got to have nice dinner of tenderloin steak and carbonara pasta. Then we did some shopping for clothes. Bought new shorts because my current ones are getting tight due to the weight gain. Then I bought new swim trunks for the upcoming vacation.
Although I woke up with a bad foot, it’s still a pretty good day. Train well, then eat good food. Good times.
Use this life to seek your happiness. Satisfy yourself. Life is too short to waste on worrying about things outside your control. Don’t worry about what other people think. Don’t let such meaningless thing control how you lead your life. Follow your principles. This journey is yours.
Have a passion that means something to you. Treat others’ praises as meaningless. What if they are misled? What if they just do it insincerely? Do you still want to be praised by them? If you asked yourself to feel good when they praise you, then it means you live to gain their approval, then you must feel awful when they condemn you too. What if they are wrong? Would you behave foolishly just to please them?
Do it for you. Do it because you love it. Live for yourself.
People who are excited by posthumous fame forget that the people who remember them will soon die too. And those after them in turn. Until their memory, passed from one to another like a candle flame, gutters and goes out.

Get a hobby that means something to you. Then do it often. Don’t overanalyze. Just do it. Life is short.
You want to get strong? Follow something effective and can be done everyday. Even on the days you feel like crap, you should still be able to do your thing. Consistency is the name of the game.
Today I have another headache. Still able to row and bench. These are my comfort lifts. No matter how sick I am, I usually still am able to do them. Squat and deadlift, not so much.
Hobby is supposed to be simple and fun. Lifting is a hobby. You probably aren’t going to compete at the top level. You compete against yourself. Just have fun today and the PRs will keep coming.
Not feeling too good today. Mild fever and headache. Still able to train a bit. Very brief session.

Happy about grinding out that 12-rep PB. I’d been stuck for almost a year at 37.5 kg.
Don’t take your health for granted. Being well is a great thing. Unfortunately you usually don’t feel grateful about being healthy until you get sick.
Sometimes you need distractions to pass the time. Hobbies can be too involved. Even though hobbies are something you enjoy doing, they often have goals. My primary hobby is lifting weight. Working towards that goal days in days out can be tiring sometimes. Between work and hobbies, you need to just sit back and relax. Take a break and be a spectator for a while. Distractions don’t have to mean anything. The point is to have fun.
My favorite distraction is sports. I have always enjoyed rooting for teams. Right now I’m into European football, NBA, NFL, UFC, powerlifting. I used to follow MLB but not much anymore.
For football, I’ve been a Barcelona fan since the Ronaldinho era. They are doing well and going for the second consecutive treble, which will be totally amazing. Messi is probably my favorite athlete in world right now.
For NBA I want the Kings to do well. I used to live in Sacramento for almost five years and followed the Kings quite religiously. They still are not a good team after all these years, while their neighbors the Warriors have gone on to become elite. I hope to see the organization put it together one of these years.
I’m quite neutral regarding other sports, like UFC and powerlifting, which is good because I can enjoy the competition without being too emotionally involved. Fighting is the most exciting individual sport to watch. Powerlifting is the rawest form of strength competition there is, to me personally.
With all the sporting events going on around the world, I get to keep myself distracted from real life. And that can be nice.
