Rambling about work
A trip to see my sister’s family is coming up. There’s also a big work-related event during that time that just popped up. Some people are giving me grief about this. I took the vacation leave a long time ago. This event was just set up recently. The work is important, but not as much as my vacation. My colleagues can take care of it, I’m sure.
Some people like to work all the time. That’s great for them. For me, I need the downtime to be away, recharge, and focus on other things in life. My personal time is sacred. As a principle, I take my time away from work seriously. Even though I do nothing important during my off days, I still want to be left alone unless it’s an emergency. There’s rarely any real emergency that’s worth disturbing anyone though.
This week I have to give a few lectures. Unfortunate timing, as I’ve been sick for quite a while now. It’s no fun to be coughing a lot during a class. On a related note, I used to enjoy teaching, but now it’s become a chore. It’s not making me learn many new things and I’m mostly just repeating the same thing over and over. I think I’m going to scale down the time I spend teaching by a lot. If it’s not fun there’s no point in doing it.
I’m so busy these days that my Spanish learning had taken a hit. Need to pick it up.
Working with many people, you can’t escape dealing with politics. Be true to yourself. Never kiss ass. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. If it’s not true, don’t do it. Said Marcus Aurelius.
