Out for coffee (piccolo latte at Ristretto), ate nice late lunch (on the table), lifted (bench press and rack pull, just getting some pump in), shopped on Amazon (Bluetooth speakers and headphones, and some gym stuffs).
I try to avoid owning too many things, but if there are things I need and make my life more enjoyable I’m happy to obtain them. Been needing good wireless speakers for a while.
It’s day 3 of cutting. Mainly reducing carbs and avoiding sugar. Still far from where I bed to be. Need to keep going.
Bought a 3.5mm to RCA audio cable so now the old speakers can be used with the computer and we don’t have to listen via headphones all the time. It is a good feeling to make things that have been kinda useless become useful.
No lifting today. Felt like my body needed a break. Did run for 10 minutes.
One approach I’m currently trying to declutter my life is self imposed limitations of storage space. At work I’m throwing everything away if they don’t fit in my one desk and one shelf. Clothes that I keep must never exceed the space of my one closet. Digital files that are too large to be stored in Dropbox (5 GB), google (15 GB), and OneDrive (15 GB) get deleted.
Live lighter by not constantly increasing your storage space. Make room for the good stuff by throwing away the useless stuff.
Shopping day. I avoid going out in public places these days. I don’t like being forced to do things I don’t want to do. But we need things at the house to make life more convenient. So we have to go out sometimes to get those things.
We went out, did things we had to do, and came back in. It’s better to stay in most of the time. For me anyway.
Also received an item I ordered from China about two weeks ago. A laptop stand which doesn’t even have a brand. Anyway it’s pretty useful. Now I don’t have to sit so much to use a computer. I can use it while in bed or lying down watching a movie or a sports game. Less sitting is good.
Easy day in the gym. Just bench. It will be heavy lifting tomorrow.
Saturday night so we had a nice dinner at home. Salmon (C trim from Paleo Robbie Grocery), som tam, and bloody mary.
Today is Sunday. Calm before another storm. Did some training. Overhead press and barbell shrug. Training day is usually a good day.
In the evening we went to the mall. Nan bought a new phone to replace the iPhone 5s that got lost in Laos. So now we have two Huawei phones at home. P9 and G7 Plus. They are good phones with nice prices.
If you want to get better at something, do it everyday.
These are the apps I use everyday (that isn’t mandatory for work like email, calendar, browser, chat apps).
FitNotes is an excellent app to log workouts, body weights, and analyze data. I have tried many and this one is my favorite. It has simple but efficient interface that fits my needs.
I use Duolingo to learn Spanish. It’s easy and fun to use, even though I still suck at real-world usage. Like FitNotes, progress is trackable which makes it satisfying to use.
WordPress app is a nice tool to put my thoughts out there. I’ve been a pretty lazy blogger. But this year I have committed to posting a daily entry. This is the right tool for that goal.
All three are fast, clean, and ads free, which are the three must-haves for me.
Phones have gotten pretty powerful these days. You can search for any information from anywhere with internet access. The opportunity to learn is almost unlimited. When I was a student in college the internet wasn’t this great. I still went to library to look for information. I’m a curious type who always want to know more about stuff. Technology can be great. It should be appreciated more how we can learn about anything any time we want. (Except in countries where contents are heavily censored. Free information access should be a basic human right. That’s a subject for another day.)
Nowadays I use my phone mostly to
– blog on wordpress like I’m doing right now
– learn stuff
– connect with people via line, facebook
– log workouts
– find directions
– enjoy music and watch YouTube
– work – emails, reminders, appointments, write stuff
I like games but I prefer to play on a PC. I only play sudoku and chess on the phone.
Last but not least, I just like to kill time during long bus rides. Like this evening, which is almost exactly like last Friday, I spend so much time sitting in one place. (It’s been almost 2 hours 30 min on the bus.) Without a phone I would probably suffer much more.
Smart phones are pretty great. I don’t know what’s the big deal with people moaning how much people are spending so much time on their phones. Simple: phones are fun and useful. That’s why people like to use them!
