Burger night

leave a comment »

Today is holiday. Did some training in the heat. Did what I could. I didn’t enjoy it. Got a headache again due to this smoldering weather.

Tomorrow isn’t going to be any better.

In the evening, we craved some juicy burgers. There aren’t any good burger places near us. So we drove down to Sukhumvit and got our dinner from Daniel Thaiger. Had difficult time with parking, and place to eat (ended up eating at a gas station in our car), and had to deal with traffic. It’s simpler for me to eat a good burger when on travel (England and France) than right here in my hometown.

The burger was good though. Satisfied our craving. It will probably be a long while till we drive there again.

First Uber ride

leave a comment »

Bangkok public transport leaves much to be desired. I was ragged this morning taking buses to run a work errand. I normally take buses and skytrains. This place I had to go to doesn’t have access to either. I refuse to ride motorcycles in general. So I had to walk a long way from a bus stop to the destination. Being drenched in sweat at 8 am isn’t a pleasant way to begin the day.

On the way back I decided to try Uber for the first time. Learning new things is exciting. The app had some trouble with the pickup spot. For some reason, it was not set to where I actually was, so the driver and I has to talk on the phone multiple times. Anyhow, once I got in the car, a black Toyota Vios, the ride went pretty smoothly. Once I got to my destination I didn’t have to fumble with my wallet. The driver Durant have to deal with carrying lots of cash and changes. The charge is through the credit card on file. Convenient.

The drivers don’t get to refuse the passengers based on destinations. The rating system keeps both parties on their best behaviors. The fee for Uber X seems reasonable. Overall I like it. Uber is better than traditional taxis for sure.

Friday on the road

leave a comment »

Friday’s are nice. They give you hope. After a long work week, when your energy is low, Friday comes and tells you the weekend is just around the corner. It’s time to relax. Time to kick back and enjoy what you enjoy. Time to take care of yourself. Time to recharge for the coming week.

Some Friday’s are better than others. Yesterday was not one of them. I spent 2:15 hours on the road to get back to Bangkok, then another 40 minutes to get home. In the morning I was in the road for 2 hours. So the total of five hours was spent in traffic today. Five hours of my life I’ll never get back. I was drained when I got home. That’s life in the city.

That’s the past though. It’s over with. Today is Saturday and I got to spend a good amount of time in the gym (I will write about it tomorrow). In the afternoon, Nan and I got to have nice meals together. Good times.

glad to finish, run for children 10k, 22 sep 2013

First half 24:06, second half 25:19.
49:25

It was a very hard race for me. Just happy I could keep going at steady pace and finish. Legs felt fine but fitness was lacking. My longest run in the past year was 5.6 km yesterday. Wanted a negative split but failed. No biggie. It’s good to see where I am regarding endurance. Did manage to go under 50 min. I’m happy with that.

Well-organized event, even though I got an XL shirt (would be good as a pajamas) and a small urn instead of a medal.

Grateful that Nan got up early and left the house at 4 am with me to go to the race.
