Update
Aim turns 27 today. Today is a regular day of SI: Lectures in the morning, group discussion in the afternoon. I found the presentation about advanced reactors to be interesting. Unlike yesterday’s fancy dinner, I had a quick, simple dinner in the food court tonight. It’s convenient to have a supermarket in the basement. I haven’t bought much yet, but it has everything if I ever need anything.
This weekend we are going to Seoul. Most people elect to spend a night there, but I am coming back to Cheongju.
Below is the WNU SI group picture from a formal dinner.
Sangdangsanseong Fortress
Today (Sunday) I went with 10 other Fellows to visit the historical Sangdangsanseong (Sangdang Mountain Fortress), in Cheongju. We walked the whole length of it (around 4 km). The group consisted of Merle, Pia, Josh, Ulrich and his wife, Kim, Doug, Ionut, Sergey, and Matt.
Wonderful sightseeing trip.
Korea life
My fourth day in South Korea. Things are going fantastic. I’ve met many new people. Very professional and kind. I would love to find some lifelong friends here. Other than people, the food is good. I eat a lot. I have some time in the evening to run. My life quality is pretty good. I neither have to drive nor put up with the awful traffic. I also like not having a mobile phone, or desk phone for that matter. It’s a free feeling. I can fully learn what I want to learn and do what I want to do.
Cheongju
I am in Cheongju, South Korea. My first visit to this country. The flight was long and wasn’t so comfortable (Asiana Airline). The bus ride was long but more pleasant than the flight. Anyhow, after shower and dinner, I’m feeling fine.I’m here for the WNU Summer Institute. I think it’s a good break from work for me. Being away from routine life, I can refocus of what I want to do career-wise.
Some updates
Tomorrow is the last day of trimester 3. Lots of stuff to go through. Next week is the final exam. Then next Saturday I’m off to South Korea for the long summer school. It will be the first time I leave the country since I came home 2 years ago from the US.
Wimbledon is going on. It’s nice to have tennis to watch. The rain is quite awful though.
Just got myself a MacBook Pro. Been 4 years since bought last computer. It’s about time. The iPhone was released a few days ago in the US. It will be many months till it comes to Thailand.
Good motto for myself these days: “If you are not making mistakes, you aren’t challenging yourself enough.” I love challenges. Routine stuff bores me.
